Sex and Sexuality as a Digital Being

Sex and Sexuality as a Digital Being

The modern purpose and practice of sex

Historically, and indeed biologically, sexual intercourse has generally been for the purpose of having children alone. Humans are among the few animals that choose to have sex for pleasure as well as to further the line. In recent decades, healthcare and economics have meant that having children is a much lower priority, and society has become far more liberal about sex and sexuality. What hasn’t changed is our desire to engage sexually with sex and sexuality as a digital being remaining through the upload process. This has meant that many people have become far more creative and open about their sexuality, something beginning to be seen in popular media.

In the current day, there is a wide-spread joke about the internet that if something exists, there is porn of it. Things like BDSM, threesomes, orgies, fan fiction porn and so many more, which last century would have seemed repulsive to most people, are now almost commonplace on the internet. Whether this should be the case or not is a separate question, but not what’s being discussed here. What we will talk about is how all these desires, fetishes and fantasies become immeasurably improved when you upload your brain to digital form and live in an artificial body.

How sex is improved as a digital being

Super customisable hardware

As we have talked about before, artificial bodies, the robotic bodies a digital being would live in, would be extremely customisable. In the context of sex, this means a number of things. For one, you could give yourself an artificial body far more attractive than your old biological body. You could even look like any character from pop culture, anime or any other media. Beyond this, though, lies far more potential: the ability to redefine the experience of sex.

Most animals are limited to one penis or one vagina. However, when you are making an artificial body, you don’t need such bounds. Theoretically, you could have penises for fingers, a chest full of boobs and vaginas at the bottom of your feet. Clearly, this is a radical change, but that doesn’t make it any less possible. Even vanilla sexual intercourse would be improved by superior hardware design and a non-existent risk of contracting an STD.

In fact, there is no reason, other than traditional interest, to stick to biological form factors. Orgasms are experienced exclusively in the brain, which means any correctly formatted signal could simulate the same sensation in a digital brain. This means any activation could cause an orgasm, including things like buttons, internal software, a signal or any other form of physical stimulation. This quickly becomes a software question, which any hardware-brain interface relies upon.

Software and simulated reality

One aspect of the software side of sex would be the endurance and scale of pleasure. Being ‘early’ is a common tease in the adult world. For digital being, this can all be configured with software. What can also be configured is the strength of the orgasm. Presumably, most people would want a high strength orgasm, which could be made a lot stronger than our brain’s default.

More desirable is simulated and augmented reality. One of the biggest sexual limits in the real world is the number of people you can attract as well as how attractive you find them. This is one of the reasons why the porn industry has grown so large; it doesn’t discriminate by looks, interests or sexual orientation. Simulated sexual experiences, like simulated gaming, represents the technological maximum for pornographic experiences.

You could have simulated sex with your favourite celebrities, your secret crush, fictional characters and any other person of your choice. Any fantasy you could imagine could be experienced anywhere in the universe, all inside your head. Even real, physical sex could be enhanced with augmented reality scenery, aromas, looks and sensations. You could be having sex with one person and see them as someone else, or even have a simulated third person. Old memories of sex that you look back on fondly could be relived and made more pleasurable if you so choose. If it can be imagined, it can be experienced. As cheesy as it sounds, anything is possible.

Configurable sexuality

Sex and sexuality as a digital being isn’t all about hardware of software, however. One other massive source for potential is that of configurable brains. In short, configurable brains involve analysing a person’s digital brain to differentiate between brain regions. These regions can then be replaced either with an existing brain region or an average of existing brain regions or an AI imitation. This means that whatever brain region is responsible for sexuality could be replaced with another sexuality. One could choose to like blondes, brunettes or red-heads, men, women or men and women, bondage or traditional romance and so on. Someone with a fetish could choose to get rid of it, explore it or replace it with something else. Sex and sexuality as a digital being has practically no limits, other than the imaginative capacity of the time.

As an aside, it should be noted that having children isn’t possible by default with digital beings. This doesn’t mean they couldn’t be conceived, but sperm and eggs would have to be stored from when the person was a biological being and then the embryo placed in a biological or artificial womb. Other than this, fluids that imitate semen and other bodily fluids could be created but would have limited use for beings who cannot eat or conceive children and thus don’t have any actual use for bodily fluids other than pleasure.

  1. Interesting specific post. I have had an interest in this paradigm for some time. Mazlish – 1995 – was a seminal work. It is old but so is the theory of gravity.. I lecture in inter-cultural uncertainty at two London universities, with some overlaps to the Mazlish 4th Discontinuity. Will see what happens on your journey. https://yalebooks.yale.edu/book/9780300065121/fourth-discontinuity
